Legal Risk and Compliance Consultancy

Where structure becomes movement, elevation becomes inevitable.
Jala Nala is a legal risk and governance, business support consultancy working upstream with established, trading SMMEs (Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises) and post-funding or post-incubation enterprises.

We translate everyday businesses operations into legal, governance, and commercial structures that can be understood, held, and sustained.
This is lived alignment between intention, action, and protection.
In parallel, we support corporates and development partners to engage contract-ready SMMEs with confidence, integrity, and reduced risk, turning enterprise development into credible, workable partnerships.
About Jala Nala
Who we are?
We are a consultancy that brings commercial legal risk and governance support into real operations, alongside community development and practical business structures.
We provide early, preventative support that strengthens operating confidence for established, trading SMMEs and post-incubation enterprises, while de-risking investment for development partners.
The Founder
Fiona Seleke was born and raised in Naledi, Soweto. She has spent her career moving between community-rooted enterprise and the formal corridors of corporate South Africa, gaining a rare, dual perspective on how business really works across both worlds.

Her expertise is lived and practiced. She has worked upstream in complex commercial, engineering, and infrastructure environments, supporting bids, contracts, and governance long before decisions reach boardroom tables. Her work has involved preparing, reviewing, and negotiating high-value contracts, structuring bids that secured hundreds of millions of rands in revenue, and ensuring that legal and commercial risk is addressed before it becomes failure.

Fiona holds an LLB and a BCom Law, with a Postgraduate Certificate in Risk, Compliance, and Governance. Her experience sits where decisions carry weight.

Through Jala Nala, Fiona brings together technical rigour, cultural fluency, and a deep respect for dignified entrepreneurship. Her work is guided by a simple truth. Good businesses already exist. They do not need fixing. They need to be made legible.

Our Approach
Jala Nala approaches enterprise development as a structural practice rooted in sovereignty and mutual benefit.
We work at the intersection of SMMEs and corporates, designing practical systems that make fair, functional partnership possible. Our work begins with clarity and proceeds only where structure is necessary and proportionate.

We honour the agency and lived intelligence of every business we work with. Structure is introduced to support autonomy, not replace it, and accountability is embedded without stripping dignity or context.
Clarity is treated as a form of care. Clear agreements, defined roles, and grounded expectations create the conditions for trust, safety, and forward movement.
All engagements are designed to support mutual benefit, through structures that hold under pressure and enable sustainable commercial outcomes for all parties involved.
OUR PRINCIPLES
Integrity. Truth over optics. Substance over performance.
Objectivity. Risk assessed as it exists, not as it is hoped to be.
Proportionate. Precise. Grounded in experience.
Confidentiality. Trust is treated as infrastructure, not courtesy.
Practical innovation. If frameworks do not fit, we reshape them
Why Jala Nala Exists
